Tatooine, Morocco

We arrived 2 1/2 hours prior to sunrise. Had a quick nap!

Last night we got a full night’s sleep at the border crossing from Morocco into Mauritania. We parked in queue and camped.

This morning we crossed and have now found a restaurant with internet. Not fast enough to share video, but able to get a photo upload!

The team is well and safe. Thanks for all the support and well wishes!

Morocco Off Road

Team Bright Eyed: Sean Flynn, Arthur Edstrom, Daniel Byrne and Conor Byrne, "cruising" off road in Morocco during Stage 4.

We had a tough and long stage 4 yesterday driving hundreds of km off road. Gorgeous landscape. Difficult off road driving. We experienced a few mechanical failures: smoke in truck cab, sheared hydraulic hose, though we had a fuel leak, flat tire and no high beam head lights, but great teamwork and good attitudes persevered. We arrived at the stage 4 completion with an excellent scoring day at 3:30 AM. NOT A SUNDAY DRIVE! HA! Setup camp. Slept for 2 1/2 hours. Turned in our race sheet. Day debrief at 7 AM. Back out to Western Sahara!

I’ve briefly found open WIFI in Tarfaya, Morocco. Keep watching out Live Map for our progress. We really appreciate all the well wishes. Team is healthy and safe.

Morocco off road yesterday for hundreds of kilometers

Stage 2 – Update

We made it to Nador, Morocco last night at 1 AM after driving straight through for 36 hours from Verona, Italy. We’ve been told that 10 vehicles have dropped out for various reasons. Our truck, The Wildebeest, is holding up great. Team Bright Eyed is holding up with great team work.

We roll today to complete the Marathon Stage for 3000 km. Tough stage. Feels good to have 2/3 completed.

Internet has been limited as we’ve been driving nearly non-stop. Have some great video I edited while we drove which will have to wait for fast internet connection somewhere weeks from now.

Stage 1 Complete!

Short video

We made it successfully from Budapest to Verona, Italy for Stage 1. It was over 800 km. We had hours of off road we didn’t expect plus competition challenges. Long and fun day. Great team work.

Today we start Stage 2 which is 300 km from Verona to Morocco!

Stage 1

Within the first hours of Budapest-Bamako 2012, we had competition challenges that continued all until night while also driving over 800 km. We had many conversations like this short one I captured here.

We had to go to another tire shop. We spent a totally of $15.

Budapest Hunt for Tires

We are a bit concerned about the tires on The Wildebeest. We thought it would be good to get some expert opinions. We got a recommendation to talk to some experts. Great guys!
